Bound by the Past by Cora Reilly

Bound by the Past (Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles, #7)Bound by the Past by Cora Reilly
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So I have mixed emotions over this book. The book starts in the past when Dante is nineteen and heir to Chicago's Outfit and ends in the future when he's married to his second wife and having children with her. The plot, therefore, spreads over several years, building the set up for many conflicting situations that resulted in Dante's five betrayals to the Outfit and showing the aftermath of his actions. I loved how Cora masterfully crafted this story. It felt like with every betrayal another layer of Dante's character was revealed. It was a very interesting and refreshingly different approach to explain his character to her readers.

I honestly wished this book was a bit longer in some scenes especially the beginning when he meets Valentina. I felt like that part just felt rushes as if Cora just wanted to get rid of the moment and get to the others. There were some scenes from BBD that I wanted to see but it was just summarized in one paragraph and we had to quickly move on.

The relationship between Dante and his children was just adorable! You can definitely see how his actions are going to impact his children in the long run. I also noticed some teasers here and there between future couples and what's to come in the new upcoming series. I can see how the relationship between Anna and the senator's son is going to be plus a possible love triangle between Santino as well. Plus, Samuel and Emma were kind of foreshadowed and now I am excited by that! But the book I am definitely looking forward to is Fragile Longing. As the reader, you got to see Danilo change from Twisted Pride to such a different person. (Poor Sophie.)

Overall, BBTP wrapped up the Born in Blood series with a trip to the past and set the players for the Sins of my Father series.

Black Knight by Rina Kent

Black Knight (Royal Elite, #4)Black Knight by Rina Kent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was one of my most anticipated books of May! After reading the first three books of Royal Elite, I was anxiously waiting for Kim and Xander's book. I knew the angst and pain were gonna be there but I was not ready you, guys!

Once Elsa began dating Aiden, Kim was sort of accepted into their group. She became close to Ronan (One of my favorite characters BTW!) Their love story is painful and raw, emotion flows from each page, and their connection is so intense, so deep, that I felt it to the depths of my being, I was so captivated with them, they made me cry, laugh, sigh, and they made me swooned so hard. It made my heart sing. This story is unputdownable, addictive, absolutely brilliant and the author's best book to date. As always the twists kept me turning the pages without blinking. Get ready for an epic ride that will leave you with the worst book hangover ever.

My only problem with this book was it felt too short. I know it's over 300 pages but the way it's formatted made it seem that way. Like every sentence written, had it's own paragraph.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the book and loved the ending for Kim and Xander, can't wait to see more of them in the next book!

The Torn Up Marriage by Caroline Roberts

The Torn Up MarriageThe Torn Up Marriage by Caroline Roberts
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a hard read. I finished this book last night and literally woke up thinking about it.

In the beginning, I really wanted to beat Michael so much! The way he treated the OW and how he left his family for her UGH! He was controlled by lust that he confused as love. I do love how Caroline wrote his character though, she wrote was basically goes through a guy's head when they cheat. They want the attention, they thrive in being needed, and just want to be wanted. Which the OW provided for him. I did get confused a bit at the end though. Did he realize the OW just wanted him for his money...? The Christmas part confused me.

Lottie and Em were just adorable! There were moments where I just wanted to pull me into a hug and protect them from their stupid dad! They way they hugged their mom when she was crying...UGH, I love them.

Kate, girl...I supported you through this, you were strong but HELL NO I WOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN HIM BACK! I really wanted to see her go out and be single and try with Graeme because she deserved it! Even if it was to make Michael's ass jealous. She should have made Michael grovel a bit more before sleeping with him, even if it was them attempting to date each other again.

Overall, it was a lot and I read it in one sitting. So good job to Caroline for that! It's hard for a book to grip me that well and have me still thinking about it the next day. Kate was a bit too nice for my taste, but man oh man could I feel her devastation in this story. Michael got off way too easy. I really wanted Kate to get a little more involved with the sweetheart neighbor so Michael at least got jealous, realized what a total dick he had been, and had to redeem himself a bit more than he did here
