Hello everyone, I am back after a semi-small hiatus from the internet but at last I am back. Today, I am going to be talking about a new author that I have never come across from and who's work I thoroughly enjoyed. Boys of Brayshaw High by Meagan Brandy can be categorized as both Young Adult and New Adult. From the second I saw the cover for Boys of Brayshaw High, I was intrigued because I was looking to read another book after reading Corrupt by Penelope Douglas. I knew this book was going to be for me after reading the blurb, and I proceeded to tell my brother about it and he pushed me to read it so thanks to him!

Now, let's get to the review!

First here is the synopsis of the book:

"Girls like you aren't exactly welcomed at a place like this, so keep your head down and look the other way." 

Those were the exact words of my social worker when she dropped me in my newest hellhole, a place for "troubled teens". 

I didn't listen, and now I'm on their radar. 

They expect me to play along in their games of hierarchy, to fall in line in the social order they've deemed me fit. 

Too bad for them, I don't follow rules. 

Too bad for me, they're determined to make sure I do. 

Inconceivably attractive and treated like kings...these are the boys of Brayshaw High. 

And I'm the girl who got in their way. 

So just a quick input. Raven, the daughter of a drug addicted prostitute, gets removed from her home by social services and brought to a girl's group home in the town of Brayshaw. Once she gets there, she's sent to Brayshaw High where she meets the kings of the Brayshaw kingdom a.k.a. the Boys of Brayshaw, Maddoc, Royce, and Captain. The guys aren't very welcoming to her at first, but it isn't long before they see Raven is different than what they expected her to be. She's strong, confident, take no bullshit, loyal, and despite her trying to hide it underneath a steel exterior, she has a good heart. They go from pushing her away to pulling her in, and not everybody is happy about the change. Some people are downright bitter and go to great lengths to break them apart. Bribery, blackmail, and even violence, they will stop at nothing to make sure Raven leaves Brayshaw for good.

Like I said, she’s trouble. Problem is, I like the taste of trouble.

Maddoc, Royce and Captain are all deliciously different, but what makes them so appealing is how effortlessly their core beliefs about right and wrong align. They have created their own world, their own rules, and are adamantly strict in enforcing law and order, all with an unapologetic charm and fierceness. In particular, Maddoc's unyielding control clashes with Raven's brashness in a sensual dance that keeps us deliciously on edge, providing just enough angst to ensure we are emotionally involved even after the last page is flipped.

I sigh internally. “Your daddy finally let me out of the basement so long as I promised to play nice with others. But not as nice as I played with him, if you know what I mean.” I wink and her face scrunches.

Listen, Raven don't get a shit about your feelings. I was laughing and oohing every time she snapped on someone who didn't know how hard she hit. Yeah, there were sometimes where she was a bit annoying especially when it came to some people trying to just be nice to her. But, I understand where she was coming from. She never felt protected, especially when it came to the person who was supposed to care for her.

“You’re mine if I say you are, you’re trash when I decide I’m done. And I’m standing here telling you I changed my mind. I’m not ready to throw you out just yet.”

Meagan Brandy's writing pulled me in and kept my eyes glued to the page practically salivating for more. All the main characters intrigued me, made me laugh, pissed me off, broke my heart and put it back together again a few times before capturing it completely. Now, if you guys have been keeping up with me or have read my reviews, then you know I love a good angst. The romance between Raven and Maddoc drove me mad with anticipation and the sexual tension and angst of it all twisted me up in the most delicious ways.

"Careful, big man," I whisper. "That sounds a lot like a king falling. The ground isn't soft at my feet."

Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for this trope. I would say it is a bully group going after the female lead and end up accepting her. Raven is an amazing character that I love and would definitely be friends with if she let me. The boys I had mixed feelings about, but I would let it pass. Boys of Brayshaw High by Meagan Brandy is a good book to read and it is part of a series. I don't know when the second book is coming out but hopefully soon because that cliffhanger...bitch!

This review isn't going to make an ounce of sense, my brain is fried and has gone on vacation...please bear with me. I binge read the first three books in the series in two days. I was intrigued by the first one and later just kept on reading. I do have to say that it is the typical, boy group hates one girl and later they protect her. I'll be honest...those are my favorite. If you've not read this series, take my word for it, it's definitely worth a one click. It's dark, it's gritty, it's emotional, it's unputdownable, it's unique, it filthy, it's sexy, it's undoubtably one of my top series read.

You find three types of love in your lifetime. The first will show you all that you did wrong. The second will show you how you should be loved, but the third will show you what it feels like to die while still being alive.

Tillie and Nate's journey was heartbreaking, a toxic train wreck, dark games, twists and turns, sexy and steamy. My heart broke for the things these two had to go through. I felt their pain, I even cried in one scene and it's hard to make me cry! God this book and all its feels, I feel like a yo-yo, up and down, loving Nate’s alpha a-hole attitude when it comes to Tillie, but hating him at the same time with how he treats her, then like a switch he’ll do something left field and damnit those feels just get in the way again. My heart is in turmoil. But, I am an angst whore and this had it.

This book sends you in such a tailspin, love, hate, anger, the crushed heart they all go hand in hand. There I was waiting for the prompts to come at me, warning me that I'm getting to a part that I needed to prepare myself for, those never came, but what did come was a beating heart that was turned into a weeping mess of dust! My heart was ripped out of my chest, the tears came freely, my heart just broke in half. No band aide was going to fix this mess I was left in.

His jaw is set in stone, and even though I can’t see his eyes, I know that I don’t want to. I don’t want to because the one thing, person, that Nate cherished and loved more than anyone in this world is now gone. I fear for what is going to be left of him now.

Overall, this book was a roller coaster. Out of the four books in this series, this one is my favorite. I've always been intrigued by Nate, so to have some chapters in his POV was awesome. I am honestly, looking forward to the rest of the series and to find out what happens in Part 2. BTW, if you haven't read the other books in this series. READ.IT. It is an amazing series!

Yo...this book is going to be my favorite of this year! I am calling it right now! This book had everything I have been looking for in a book. This book also officially made Penelope Douglas as one of my auto-buy authors. My GOSH! I am shook!

Sending him to prison was the worst thing I could've done. It didn't matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I'd have time to disappear before he got out or he'd cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was.

But I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he's anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan.

And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn't expect this.

If you’ve read the other two books in the series you will know all about Damon Torrance and trust me I didn’t want to like him, I really didn’t. He’s done some messed up things but some how Penelope Douglas has made me fall deeply in love with Damon. He made me shout at my kindle, cry for him, want to hold him close and tell him everything will be ok. He made me roll my eyes, call him a names and smile so hard I didn’t know if I was coming or going.

“This is black,” he said. “Fear, falling, release. Excitement, risk, danger.” 

I can't describe my love for this book, for this series. It was everything and so much more. The characters, the plots the beautifully crafted writing. Ugh... Astounding. Damon Torrence will crush your heart and piece it back together taking his sweet time.

“How I’d never hated anyone as much as I hated him, but how I loved what I felt with him more than I loved anything I felt with anyone else, either.”

The angst, the fear, the love, the dirty. The red the black. No one could have wrote a book like this apart from Penelope. If you want to read something that will hold you captive this is the book. I have the biggest book hangover yet! Penelope needs more recognition, her talent hasn't been given the justice she deserves. I highly advise you to read the first two books in this saga Corrupt and Hideaway. I wanted to wait for the perfect words to review this book but I've come up short. My emotions are scrambled beyond repair with this one. I don't think I will be able to pick up another book for a while, unless it's to re read KILL SWITCH because I need to scratch that itch again.

Damon and Winter, you think you know what happened that fateful Devil’s Night years ago but you have NO idea at all! My heart raced, it broke, I laughed, I cried, I raged, I cried some more, and I fell head over heels in love with Damon! I just want to take him in my arms and heal the pain that made him so broken and so destroyed! Damon loves hard, protects what is his harder and feels more than we thought that he ever could. The connection he has with Winter is beautiful at times, ugly at others, heart breaking and healing all in one warped love story that feels more like a hate story for part of the book. You think you know who Damon is but you have ZERO idea! 

“Words were shit. They didn’t mean anything. What we did mattered, not what we said.” 

I loved Winter’s strength, she didn’t allow her blindness to hold her back, in fact I think it made her stronger. The push and pull, the hate and love, the chemistry between all of the characters just is intensified. There are a few scenes that will have you desperately needing a wardrobe change because holy crap!! Just picturing what happens, let’s just put it this way, if you thought the sauna scene in Corrupt was hot that was nothing compared to some of the scenes in Kill Switch!

"He made himself the cure, which wouldn't have been necessary if he hadn't also created the disease."

Overall, read this book! What can I say about the amazing Penelope Douglas? Damon and Winter are literally the perfect characters. This book had everything from suspense, action, romance, ANGST, it had a bit of forbidden and it also showed the relationships among all the characters. I read Kill Switch in the beginning of the year and it has been my number once since then. If you haven't read the Devil's Night series, you NEED TO! It's a perfect mix of genres that makes it one of a kind!

Twisted Emotions by Cora Reilly

And we are back with Cora Reilly, the amazing Mafia writer who has stolen my hearts through her characters. This was not my first novel by Cora Reilly and its been a while since I read a good arranged marriage mafia story: she does here what she does best and I for one as expected enjoyed myself immensely. This author is just so on the ball with this type of fiction and I always know she's going to deliver me a belter of a story. Twisted Emotions is the second story in this series but in my opinion, can still be read as a standalone I myself did and had no issues following along at all.

Anyways, here is the synopsis and the review:

It started strong and very promising, but then sadly fizzled out. I expected more action or at least a hiccup in the end before they get their HEA, which is typical in these kind of books. It's what I have come to expect from Cora Reilly's mafia books. But this one sadly disappointed in that aspect. It was really was fighting hard to be a slow-burn but it just didn't fall for it for me.

“Everyone has scars. Some are skin deep, others reach beyond that.” “Soul deep,” she whispered.

As for the characters, I really liked Nino as a hero and found it quite surprising how honorable and decent he was when it came to Kiara's past. I would have liked it if there would have been some subplot that would have challenged him on a professional level as well. But the whole book seemed more like a 'how to make this no-emotion guy feel emotion in the last 10 percent of the book'. He is portrayed as a very interesting character and but not my favorite of all Reilly's male characters. One of the reasons I didn't really feel as much for him like I did with the others because, just like Luca, Nina cheated on Kiara during their marriage. Even though Kiara gave Nino permission to sleep with other women, it still is cheating to me. Call me sensitive but I see it that way.

"Then why are you furious if it's not because someone stole what you wanted for yourself?"Because someone stole what you weren't willing to give," he murmured."

And Kiara. I loved watching her grow and heal from her past. I even had some tearful moments reading her story. Especially, learning about why she is the way she is, or in better words what became of her in order to survive. It’s so dang good. The relationship between Kiara and Nino was steady. It wasn't off the tracks hot or cute, but steady. Nino knew what kind of person Kiara was after her tragedy. But with Kiara, I loved her chemistry with Remo. It was adorable seeing him warm up to his sister-in-law as she gained more confidence. 

“I cleared my throat. “Are there any parts off limits for me?” Nino raised his dark eyebrows. “Like the Dark Arts area?” I froze, speechless, frozen, and utterly shocked. I swallowed. “Did you … did you just make a Harry Potter reference?” He must have noticed me touching the books. “I did,” he said dryly, and I had to stifle laughter.” 

I did love how Reilly wrote the build-up for the next part in this series which will be Remo's story, and I am excited. Basically I am Shane Dawson repeating 'Oh my god'. Remo has been someone

"You will never understand because you've never loved someone."Remo smiled wryly. "Loving someone who doesn't love you back is the biggest kind of stupidity I can imagine."

Overall, I did enjoy this book, but it's not my favorite of Reilly's. Towards the end I felt that the story was a bit rushed and that there was still room for growth between the couple, especially when something happened with Nino. It happened just a bit too late into the story, so it wasn't fully explored and explained. Nino's individual character development would've been stronger if this happened midway through the story. So that was the only things I found lacking in this story, it just didn't feel complete in my opinion. However, we'll definitely see more of them in the next book, which will focus on Remo. I can't wait for this crazy guy to find someone who can handle him.
